London Marathon in aid of Tower Hill Stables
On the 22nd April Paul Loader will be running his first ever London Marathon in aid ofTower Hill Stables run by lifelong vegan Fiona Oakes.
Tower Hill Stables Animal sanctuary provides care and a forever home for around400 rescued animals including 45 horses, 50 pigs, 30 dogs, 25 cats, 30 sheep& numerous smaller animals and birds.
The sanctuary is run by Fiona Oakes and her partner Martin helps at weekendswhen he is home.
Fiona`s philosophy is that she is privileged to be able to care for the animalsat the sanctuary. She does not regard them as her property, nor does she attacha financial value to any of them.
Fiona tries to allow them to interact with each other, where appropriate, in asnatural an environment as possible with her there as overseer & carer.
Every animal in Fiona`s care is given her attention, love and the best qualityof life possible and when it comes, dignity in death.
Each month the sanctuary has to find over £5300 to feed all the animals withvets bills and maintenance all extra.
The sanctuary has 250 regular supporters who help on a monthly basis via astanding order and this covers around 60% of the feed bills & nothing isEVER deducted to cover admin, expenses or salary costs as running the sanctuaryis not what Fiona does for a living. (She is a retained Fire-Fighter)
The sanctuary is set in around 9 acres and an additional 5 acres is rented innearby Tillingham.
On top of all this Fiona has to find time to maintain her position as one ofthe UK`s leading marathon runners. She runs on average 100 miles a week.
Fiona (42) has been vegan all her adult life and holds 4 marathon courserecords, two in the UK and two in Finland, and has finished in top tenpositions in Amsterdam, Florence and Moscow and top 20 in London & Berlin, two of the 5 major world city marathons. Fiona also represented the UK at theBarcelona Olympics in the track cycling. This is all the more impressive whenyou consider that Fiona has a knee replacement caused by illness when she wasjust 17. At the time she was told she would never walk again.
At present Fiona is training harder than ever to tackle the Marathon des Sables, considered to be the worldâ??s toughest foot race. Set in the Sahara desert, thisrace is a marathon a day for 6 days with one stage consisting of 50 miles, allthis in 50 degrees C. Not for the faint hearted. Fiona will be the first femalevegan to ever attempt this.
PLEASE help me to help Fiona and her animals. I`m sure you will agree she is a remarkable lady who truly deserves our help
